To university candidates: three criteria to choose a right major

One’s major is one of the most important components of university life. One's major decides who you will study with, what you will learn, and the way that you think about the world around you. One's major will be used to describe who you are during your university period and further in the future. In choosing something so important, here are three criteria to help you decide which major might work well for you.

First of all, interest is a basic element in choosing a major. People say someone who is truly passionate about something cannot be beaten by someone who is just operating under obligation. Interest will provide the motivation needed to continue doing something. Moreover, if one is interested in the subject one needs to understand, studying will likely be more bearable.

In addition to interest, talent is a key factor in studying one subject for several years. One is more likely to enjoy studying if one is talented in a major. Talent could boost one's interest, and motivation to study harder. Therefore it is worthwhile to invest one's time in an academic field one enjoys.

Lastly, prospects for one's future path after graduation are related to one's career.  It is better to choose a major that may bring you a wider choice. After finishing all one's studies in university, the date when one begins to search for a job will follow soon thereafter. The job market is not equally open to all majors. If one has majored in something with rising job opportunities, it will be easier to find a place after graduation.

The best major choice is an intersection between one's interests, talents and the possibilities in the job market. Considering a group of subjects in which one is interested or competent would narrow the choices down to a few candidates. Among the few candidates, industry forecasts will help to one figure out potential job markets. To sum up, a major heavily impacts your future. One is unlikely to regret choosing an attractive and future-focused subject.
